Who held
the power.

The coach is only one name on the decision. The athletic director, university leadership and the contracts they approved belong in the record too.

Names are the beginning. Evidence is the standard.

The presidential list follows the university's official system history beginning in 1968, including earlier system chiefs whose title was chancellor. Before the system existed, Lincoln leaders were chancellors, not system presidents. That full campus chronology remains under research. Early AD roles and some interim terms are provisional secondary-source entries, not a fully reconciled official register.

Football entries preserve official annual coaching attribution rather than assigning bowl victories or interim games to the wrong person. The 1890–1892 attribution is disputed across official publications; documented interim assignments are separate. Appointment sources do not establish current service or every later action. Individual dossiers, contracts and decisions remain incomplete; no allegation is inferred merely from appearing here.
